How To Draw A Dutch Angel Dragon Head
DISCLAIMER!
This wiki is NOT an official Dutch angel dragon body Anatomy guide, but simply my process and understanding of their body Anatomy. I am NOT making this for people to copy my art style, nore does this give you permission to do so. I'm making this to hopefully help people that are struggling with their Anatomy, and figuring out where to start. I hope to help people improve on their own unique style. For information regarding the Dutch angel dragon species, do and don'ts go to the Official Dutch angel dragon website. With that said, let's begin!
Allrighty, first off im going to give you guys some tips I find help me greatly.
First tip: References, use them! Google pics of horses, dogs, and birds or other anatomy guides for dutch angel dragons. They help sooooo much!
Second tip: Get good at drawing horses, birds, and dogs. The dutch angel dragons anatomy is a lot like their anatomy. If you can draw them, you will have no problem with Dutchies.
Third tip: this is the most important tip In my opinion. When I was a new artist I struggled with this a lot! Keep to your styal! Now I know what your thinking " gee Ace we get it, don't copy other peoples styles." Well yes i am implying that. I'm also saying this because it can be difficult to create your own style of art, well you have another person style in mind. Don't try to force yourself to look a certain way. Let your mind do the work, go with the flow. It's okay if it dosnt look a certain way, with practice you'll get where you want to be. Trust me, I should now. I'm still not 100% happy with my Style.
Allrighty! I'm going to put this into categories and steps. There will be three categories with steps, and explanations regarding their specific steps. Hopefully makeing it easier for you guys to understand my way of doing things.
PELASE, if there is something I don't cover well, or don't cover at all. Let me know, I will be more that happy to add onto this.
☆Category 1☆
The head
~Step 1 head shape~
Keep in mind when doing realistic anatomy (witch is what I'm going over) Dutchies have a horse like head stricture. They have a very straight face, unlike a dog or cat.
Thank you kye for the perfect side view. He's one of the lovely horses at my work.
See how straight his face is, there's no drop off like you would see in a dog.
my dog oil, isn t he a lovely model.
See the difference?
However horse heads can also have varying shapes to them as well. Not all horses are going to have a completely straight face. Some have more of a curve to their muzzle, or a bow to it.
Alrighty! Now for the fun part. You better have a peace of paper and pencil ready, or if you prefer digital, Q up your computer we're drawing a Dutchie head! Keep room on your paper to add a body, tail, legs, and wings.
So, we're going to start off with the fundamentals of practically every drawing. A circle!
Now you don't have to do this, but I like to define part of my circle where I want the muzzle to start.
For the next step. Your going to want to stare at the top of your circle. Then bring a line down for the muzzle, then curl it in to make a mouth.
(sorry if I explain how to do this poorly. I was having a hard time figuring out how to explain this part)
Then you need to give your Dutchie a bottom jaw. Start at the lips? (Idk what to call them) and draw a smaller line that curls back into a cheek.
(keep in mind you don't want your bottom jaw sticking out to far. otherwise your duchie will look like they have an upper bite)
Now go back to the top of your circle, and make a slightly curved line down. This is going to be the back of your neck. Also go to the bottom of your Dutchies cheek and make a line that curves towards the back of the neck.
And there you have the basic shape of a dutch angel dragon head.
(see how I've kept the face strate. this is what you want to do if your going for a realistic look)
Once you've got the head shape to your liking. You can move on to giving your Dutchie their eye, ears, nostrils, and more of an expression.
♡Category 2♡
{body}
Step 2: body shape
Alrighty, we've made it to the body! So, just like the head. Horses can have varying body types as well.
(found this on Google. figured it would be a good example pic. says on the picture that it was done by NYXCATTI)
To start on the body you are basically going to continue off where we left with the head.
You want to go back to the neck, and continue there. Start at the front of the neck and curve it down into a chest shape, slightly bringing it up to shape the belly.
Then continue with the back of the neck. Bringing it down into a back rounding it off and connecting it to the belly to make the rump.
Now the tail is just a continuation of the back and belly slowly getting smaller. Curving whatever way you want.
Drawing legs
Now the legs I'm going to explain a little. The dutch angel dragon from what I've seen, has a very dog like leg stricture. The horse has three different joints in their frunt leg. As where the dog/Dutchie only have two. Even when the Dutchie has hooves they still just have two.
however don't let this stop you from drawing the legs however you would like. Remember this is your art your style. So if you feel like drawing legs one way go right ahead.
So, with that in your mind. Let's give are Dutchie some legs.
and the back legs are also very dog like.
Decided to go and give our duchie Hooves and paws so I could show you what hooves would look like.
◇Category 3◇
{Wings}
Dutch angel dragons can have a plethora of different Wing shapes, so long as they are covered in feathers. Don't feel like you have to stick to one look. Go Google different bird wing shapes. You'll be surprised how many there are.
However I'm going to show you the way I like to draw wings.
Your going to want to start at the top of the shoulder of your Dutchie. And draw the basic structure of a wing.
How I find where all my feather would go is by drawing the outline of each layer of feathers.
And the fill them in. Start with the 1st, 2nd and then 3rd. Start at the bottom with rounded feathers, and slowly start making them bigger and pointy or as you go.
first
second
third
Now the only thing left to do is to customize your fluff butt! Have fun, hope this was helpful. And please don't hesitate to ask questions I will answer them as soon as I can.
(Side note: sorry for any mistakes, I was finishing this up at midnight. So, I'm tired, like really tired :joy: I will probably come through at a later date and polish this up. So if you see any mistakes please feel free to point them out)
